Warm temperatures continue ahead of late week rain

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Wednesday! It’s going to be another unseasonably warm day today. Afternoon temperatures will likely climb into the upper 60s and low 70s. There’s a low chance of a stray shower or storm, but that chance has lowered since yesterday.

A warm front lifts through the region on Thursday. That brings us a low chance of a shower or storm as the front passes. The bigger headline Thursday will be the warm air. Temperatures will surge into the mid-70s, with upper 70s in the realm of possibility for some. However, chances will increase overnight Thursday into Friday.

Widespread rain and a few storms will be likely ahead of a frontal system that passes through during the day on Friday. The best chance of rain will be early in the day on Friday, that’s when the heaviest of the rain will be likely. Lighter showers will remain possible after the front passes. Temperatures take a hit as this front passes, afternoon highs will remain mild but stay into the upper 50s and low 60s.

How about the weekend? Saturday looks mainly dry for most, though there will be some added cloud cover. Sunday’s rain chances continue to decrease as well. There will be a secondary cold front sweeping through the region Sunday into Monday. As this front passes, colder air will return for the entire region.

Below average temperatures are likely Monday and Tuesday, and a few snow flakes can’t be ruled out! Temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 30s and low 40s both days. This cold snap likely won’t last long. We will return near normal later next week.
