Strong-to-severe storms move in ahead of a big temperature drop Wednesday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

Happy Tuesday! We begin your day with a round of showers and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours and isolated hail will be possible, especially across central Kentucky. This round will exit and give way to a mostly cloudy and mild rest of the day.

Wind Advisory 02

There is a Wind Advisory that goes into effect this afternoon and will last until Wednesday morning. 30-40 MPH wind gusts are likely, with 40-50 MPH gusts possible. This will be outside of any stronger storms that move in late tonight.

Spc Day 1

A line of strong-to-severe storms will be moving in overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Areas north and west of Lexington have a Level 2 Severe Risk due to the damaging wind gust threat. The bulk of the severe threat will remain to our north into Indiana, but we are still tracking the threat of stronger storms here locally as well.

Futurecast 0227

There is also a low tornado threat into northern Kentucky. This is due to the possibility of stronger storms developing ahead of the main line of storms. These storms will likely be to our north and will be possible around midnight through 2-3 am.

Spc Wednesday

The bulk of the severe threat will be a line of storms that will be quickly sweeping through the region during the early morning hours of your Wednesday. This will be ahead of a strong cold front that will plummet our temperatures into the 30s after starting the early morning hours in the 60s. Wind chill values could dip into the low-t0-mid 20s Wednesday afternoon. Overnight lows into Thursday morning will fall all the way into the 20s. Leading to a seasonably chilly day on Thursday, with highs struggling to reach the mid-40s.
