Rain to accumulating snow for Monday
Meteorologist Jordan Smith has your Sunday evening ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Lexington, Kentucky (WTVQ – ABC 36): Good Sunday evening everyone, it has been a mainly dry day across the area but changes are on the way Monday afternoon – Tuesday morning in the form of rain to accumulating snow. Monday starts mainly dry with temperatures in the 40s but I can’t rule out a stray shower down south.
Rain then increases in coverage and intensity Monday afternoon/evening. Locally heavy rain is a good bet.
Colder air then wraps in here with temperatures crashing during late evening. That will allow snow to take over and last into Tuesday morning.
Accumulations are likely and a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is out for much of central, northern, and west-central Kentucky.
This area is where there is the greatest confidence at impactful accumulations at this time. But this advisory will likely be expanded further off to the south and east into the day on Monday. Exact totals are still not set in stone, but our first thoughts at snowfall shows a 2″-4″ snowfall possible for northern/central Kentucky with a 1″-3″ snowfall possible for the remainder of the state.
This will likely change over the next 24 hours as we get a better handle on this system. So as always, stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for updates. #kywx
