Local utility companies prepare for coming storm
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — Due to the storm making its way across Kentucky, utility companies in Lexington and across the state are making preparations for strong winds, heavy rains and power outages.
Kentucky Utilities and Davis H. Elliot have been working around the clock to make sure crews are prepared for any emergencies, especially wind damage.
Daniel Lowry from Kentucky Utilities says they’re keeping a close eye on weather conditions and crews are ready to respond.
“We have crews on stand-by. You know we are watching the weather. The forecast and these high winds. We’re prepared to address any outages as safely and as quickly as possible. So, you know we’re ready, we’ve been preparing, we’ve been in contact with our mutual assistant partners as well. So we are ready to respond.
KU wants to remind customers that if they do experience a power outage, they can check the estimated time of repairs both online and the KU app.
Jake Green with Davis H. Elliot spoke about how they prepared for the storm.
“We have hundreds of people that are involved within the state of Kentucky that do powerline work that stretches from the western part of the state to the eastern part of the state. And we have a lot of resources beyond. So in the event that we needed additional help, we would like to call on those. But hopefully with the forecast that we’re seeing we should be able to accomplish this with the core of line workers that we have within the state.”\
Green hopes there is not too much damage or outages and wants to remind everyone to be safe and to be mindful of driving conditions.
