A busy pattern kicking off the new year
Meteorologist Jordan Smith has your Monday evening ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Lexington, Kentucky (WTVQ – ABC 36): Good Monday everyone and Happy New Year! It is a cold and dreary first day of 2024 across central and eastern Kentucky with temperatures in the low to mid 30s, mostly cloudy skies, and snow flurries. The next several days look seasonably cold and dry before a big time storm system impacts our area this weekend. In the short term, temperatures hit the low to mid 20s to start our Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon remains dry with highs in the low 40s.
Wednesday morning starts back into the low to mid 20s with dry skies.
Wednesday afternoon will see some improvement in temperatures with mid 40s and dry skies continuing.
Thursday morning we are back into the 20s to start with a few snow flurries in eastern Kentucky.
Thursday and Friday afternoons will stay seasonably cold and dry across the area. But all eyes are on the weekend for a big time storm system set to impact our region. Rain and snow both look possible but to what extent remains to be seen. We have two potential scenarios across central and eastern Kentucky, one with a further north track of the low pressure.
That track would mean more of a rain event with just some light winter weather. Scenario two takes that area of low pressure further south and allows more cold air to get into Kentucky.
That would mean more of a winter weather hit here in Kentucky. But we are still several days away from this system impacting us so either option is possible. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for updates all week long.
