A & D Plaza gives out free Christmas meals

Liberty, Ky. (WTVQ) — One local store is giving out free Christmas meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

ABC 36 spoke with the owner of A & D Plaza Jack Patel and partner David Richards on why they decided to do this.

“I just like to feed the people, take care of them,” said Patel. “I mean I don’t know what to say. I just want to make sure everybody has a good Christmas and everybody has a good meal.”

This is the first year Patel and Richards have given out free meals for the holidays.

On Thanksgiving they gave out 6,000 meals to their community and this time they’re hoping to give out even more.

“We kind of want to make an impact in peoples lives,” said Richards. “People have sad times during the holidays, as we both have experienced losing our parents, lots of people go without food and we don’t want that to happen.”

One of the main reasons they do this, is to honor their moms.

“They made sure everyone in their community was taken care of and fed. You know they were just a pillar to the community,” said Richards.

All of the food is made at the store. People can get chicken, green beans, fish and so much more.

Patel and Richards say all are welcome to come and get food.

“There’s no time period,” said Patel. “If they have five people they can come, they can come three times a day, four times a day, I don’t care. I just want make sure everybody gets a meal.”

They even have some organizations ordering meals ahead of time. They say if any other organizations want to do that, they would love to help.

“It brings joy to our hearts to help others and we would be nothing without this community.”
