Bell County Sheriff warns of phone scam

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Bell County Sheriff is urging people to be on the lookout for a telephone scam.

The Sheriff’s Office says someone has been calling people claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office, dispatch, or Kentucky State Police. The caller claims the person they have called has warrants they need to answer to. Then the caller mentions the victim can pay a fee to have the warrant removed.

In another scam, the Sheriff’s Office says the caller claims he is  from the Kentucky State Police, collecting donations for the Bell County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at least one of these calls was made to a landline from an Ashland phone number: (606) 618-9447.

The Department says no fundraising is being done and no one with an active warrant would be contacted by phone.
