Spike strips end police pursuit through Pulaski, Boyle counties

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Nancy man is behind bars after leading police on a chase that started in Pulaski Co. and ended at the intersection of the Danville By-Pass and Gose Pike.

Officers in Danville say they got the call about an incoming pursuit on Thursday at about 2:30 a.m.  Pulaski Deputies say they were coming from Stanford on US 150 in pursuit of a stolen vehicle driven by a man they believed was armed with a handgun.

Danville Police were able to set spike strips across the roadway as the pursuit neared.  The driver hit the strips, which immediately began deflating the tires.

A short distance later, the driver pulled into the Kroger parking lot, where Pulaski Co. Deputies took him into custody.

Christopher H. Smith, 31, was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking, fleeing and evading police, wanton endangerment, and possession of a handgun.
