9-year-old boy, who died after being swept away by floodwaters in Frankfort, identified

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A 9-year-old Frankfort boy has died after being swept away by weather-related high water conditions Friday morning, according to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

The child, identified by the coroner as Gabriel Andrews, was reportedly on his way to his school bus stop around 6:35 a.m. in the Hickory Hills area of Frankfort when he was caught by the floodwaters.

Frankfort police say search and rescue efforts involving multiple agencies and volunteers were started as soon as the call came in. According to the coroner’s report, Gabriel Andrews was recovered approximately half a mile from where he was reportedly swept away.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning in Frankfort, with results expected to be available in 16 to 20 weeks. The investigation is ongoing, led by the Frankfort Police Department and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
