I-64 rest areas in Morehead temporarily closed

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A water line break has temporarily closed both I-64 rest areas in Rowan County at mile marker 141 just east of Morehead until further notice.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says repairs are under way by the Kentucky Department of Highways. However, the rest areas most likely will remain closed through the Thanksgiving holiday and this weekend.

Crews have barricaded the rest area ramps, and are placing message boards at nearby exits and key locations in advance of the rest areas to warn the traveling public and truckers who need commercial truck parking.

Motorists should plan travel accordingly:

–  The nearest open I-64 rest areas include the eastbound Grayson rest area and westbound Kentucky welcome center at mile markers 174 near Grayson, and the eastbound Clark County rest area near Winchester at mile marker 98.

– Exits with facilities east of the closed rest areas include Ashland-Cannonsburg (Exits 191, 185 and 181), Grayson (Exit 172), and Olive Hill (Exits 156 and 161). Exits west of the closed rest areas include Morehead (Exit 137), KY 801 (Exit 133), Owingsville (Exits 123 and 121) and Mount Sterling (Exits 113 and 110), as well as Winchester and Lexington.
