Customs agents seize $365,000 in meth in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Louisville intercepted over 40 pounds of crystal methamphetamine valued at about $365,000 Thursday.

CBP officers inspected the parcel based on their experience and x-ray anomalies. Upon inspection, they found two metal lamps. The officers did an intrusive inspection, and drilled into the lamps revealing a white, crystalline substance, the bureau said in a release.

The parcel was coming from Reynosa, Mexico heading to a residence in Des Moines, Iowa. The crystal meth weighed a total of 40.8 pounds and has a street value of $365,000.

“Smugglers are always trying to find a way to sneak their drugs into the U.S.,” said Louisville Port Director Thomas Mahn. “However, our CBP officers are keenly aware of their attempts and remain vigilant finding every attempt they make, keeping our country safe.”
