3 killed, 1 injured in wreck on I-64 on Sandstone Mountain

SANDSTONE, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia State Police are investigating a wreck on Interstate 64 that killed three people and injured a fourth person.

The accident occurred around 6:09 p.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes on Sandstone Mountain.

State police say a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Wesley C. Lester of Benton hit another vehicle in the rear end. Both vehicles went out of control and flipped multiple times over an embankment about a mile apart.

The second vehicle’s driver, 58-year-old Julia F. James of Lexington, Kentucky, was ejected.

State police say James, Lester and a passenger in Lester’s vehicle, 45-year-old Brenda L. Lester of Benton, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in James’ vehicle, 61-year-old Delores M. Facemire of Lexington, was taken to a hospital in Charleston. Her condition wasn’t immediately known.

This story has been corrected to show that one wreck occurred, not two separate accidents.
