24 Locations Have Signed On To Horse Country, Inc. Tours

A group of people in the horse industry have joined together in hopes of telling the whole life of a horse through tourism.

The parent non-profit organization, Horse Country,  Inc., will have central booking for tours at 22 farms and two vet clinics in Kentucky.

"We hope people can have emotional connections and experiences, so they want to engage with horses and the farms," said Anne Sabatino Hardy, the newly-named executive director of Horse Country, Inc.

The current participating tour locations are the following: Adena Springs, Airdrie Stud, Ashford, Claiborne, Crestwood, Darby Dan, Darley, Diamond A, Gainesway Farm, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Keene Ridge, Lanes End, Mill Ridge, Mt. Brilliant, Pin Oak Stud, Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, Runnymede, Siena Farm, St. George, Stone Farm Stonestreet, Taylor Made, Winstar Farm and Winter Quarter.

Price H. Bell, Jr. of Mill Ridge Farm and Nicoma Bloodstock said currently their farm does not offer tours.

"A lot of farms would like to provide access but they are busy at key times," said Bell.

He explained most farms’ goal is to feed and care for the animals, to produce top-notch thoroughbreds.

He said online booking will provide times each location can be toured, along with a description of their specialty.

Bell also said it should help local tourism and develop fans of horse racing.

Horse Country, Inc.’s board of directors plans to charge around $20 for tours.

They would like to start friends and family tours in the spring of 2015 and paid tours the following summer.
