State’s COVID positivity number having trouble cracking 2% mark


FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The state’s positivity rate dipped again Tuesday after being up slightly Monday, according to the state’s daily report.

The number of cases, deaths and hospitalizations also continue the slow decline but are a reminder the virus still is present.

On the flip side, the state reported 2,131,157 Kentuckians vaccinated, a 16,899 increase since last reported on Sunday, June 13.

The positivity rate was 2.05%, down from 2.08% Monday but up from 2.02% Sunday.

The state reported eight coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Kentucky’s overall death toll since the pandemic hit to 7,171.

The state also confirmed 290 new cases of COVID-19, 48 of which were children 18 or younger.

Of the total cases, the state said 232 people were in the hospital, up from 223 Monday, 70 are in ICU, up from 65 Monday and 35 are on a ventilator, unchanged from Monday.
