LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – Due to the social distance regulations of the pandemic, the Catholic Action Center is expanding its emergency shelter space to motel rooms.
Normally the action center can accommodate up to about 200 people, in times of need such as cold weather.
With covid-19 restrictions, this act of charity is not feasible.
Ginny Ramsey with the catholic action is trying to stress how serious the cold is.
To help accommodate these folks, vans will be driving around to offer a warm place to sleep.
“You know we’ve lost many people here in Lexington who simply won’t take shelter so we’re trying to at least warn them to give them a chance and one way to do that is to offer these hotel rooms,” says Ramsey.
There are several motels participating which cost thousands of dollars.
Ramsey says donors are helping to pay for these hotel rooms.
