FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Representative Chris Harris says he plans to run for a seat on the Kentucky Supreme Court. This comes after he announced last month he would not run for reelection.

Harris made the supreme court announcement Friday.

The Democrat from Forest Hills, who represented Martin and Pike counties, says he carefully deliberated with his family, friends and supporters before making the decision.

“Working families and small businesses deserve an independent and fair Justice who isn’t funded by utility companies and corporate special interests,” Harris said. “All Kentuckians deserve seven justices who believe the administration of Kentucky’s Supreme Court demands heightened transparency and greater accountability to taxpayers.”

Harris says he will officially file his candidacy papers with the Secretary of State’s Office on January 6.

When he announced he wouldn’t seek reelection, he cited the amount of time the job kept him away from home and family.

In 2018, Harris’ son suffered a traumatic brain injury after accidentally falling from an apartment balcony in Lexington where he was a student at the University of Kentucky.
