Death row inmate has sentence commuted to life in prison

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A death row inmate’s life was spared by outgoing governor Matt Bevin, who commuted the man’s sentence from death to life in prison, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Leif Halvorsen, and another man, shot and killed three people in a Lexington apartment on Loudon Avenue.

Halvorsen was convicted of the murders in 1983.

The 65-year-old could get a parole hearing under the new sentence.
