2018 was second lowest number recorded in mining deaths

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Mine death numbers are out from the federal government for 2018 and it was the second lowest number ever recorded.

There were 27 mining deaths nationally, 18 of those at surface operations, and nine underground.

There are an estimated 83,000 coal miners working in 1200 mines.
