2016 OVC Media Day – Morehead State
NASHVILLE (WTVQ) – Morehead State men’s basketball has been picked to finish third in the East Division of the Ohio Valley Conference, and senior guard Xavier Moon has been selected 2016-17 Preseason All-OVC by head coaches and sports information directors across the conference.
While East Division foe Belmont was voted the favorite to win the OVC, the Eagles were one of four teams to receive at least one vote for first-place overall. Morehead State turned in an 11-5 conference slate last season, before losing in the semifinals of the OVC Tournament to UT Martin. The Eagles would continue postseason play with an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational finals, where they fell 85-83 in overtime of the series-deciding game three at Nevada. At 23-14 overall, Morehead State finished the season with its most wins since 2010-11.
Moon shared leading scoring duties with now graduated guard Brent Arrington at 10.2 points per game in 2015-16. The Goodwater, Ala., native was seventh in the OVC in terms of three-point field goal percentage (.412) a season ago.
“Xavier is one of the most electrifying guards in the OVC,” said head coach Sean Woods. “He’s going to play a pivotal role not just from a scoring standpoint, but from a leadership standpoint on and off the court.”
Morehead State opens 2016-17 with an exhibition contest with Cincinnati Christian on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Arena.
