2 in the hospital, 2 on the run after morning shooting in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Two people are in the hospital, two others are on the run after a shooting this morning put a Lexington school on high alert.

Lexington police say one of their officers just happened to be sitting in his cruiser off Cross Keys Road when he heard gunshots coming from inside an apartment building.

Police say the officer ran in, found two people shot inside and administered first-aid until an ambulance arrived.

Both victims were taken to UK Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they believe the two were shot by two other men during an argument.

Police say witnesses saw the two men run from the apartment after the shooting.

Police had their k-9 unit out.

So far they have not caught the suspects but say the area is secure.

“We don’t think there is any danger to the public at large in general. We are looking for these individuals. We have the assets on scene to do what we have to do for it and if they have anything or see anything suspicious call us,” said Lt. Andrew Daugherty with the Lexington Police Department.

Because of the shooting, the nearby James Lane Allen Elementary School was put on high alert.

A letter was sent out to parents explaining the situation and the alert was lifted just before noon.

Police are still searching for the two suspects who are described as both black men, one in a red shirt and one in a white shirt.

If you have any information you’re asked to call Lexington police.
