First-ever River Fest held at Proud Mary BBQ

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Visitors gathered Sunday at Proud Mary BBQ Winchester and Lexington for the first-ever River Fest, organized by Bluegrass Greensource. The event hoped to celebrate and raise awareness for waterways like the Kentucky river.

Local organizations like Canoe Kentucky joined in for the educational event. Bluegrass Greensource, Outreach Specialist Noel Osborne says the event is a great way to get people out on the water.

“We thought it would be a great idea to showcase our local waterways like the Kentucky river. So, we wanted to just do something that was really fun. And to get people out on the water just to remind them that the Kentucky river isn’t that far from downtown Lexington. And, they should definitely utilize it a little more” said Osborne.

Water sports had been planned for the day, but rough conditions on the river prevented it.
