17-year-old becomes Junior Ranger at Camp Nelson
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – For some traveling to National Parks is a hobby for 17-year-old Aida Frey from Chicago it’s a lifestyle.
Saturday she received a badge from Camp Nelson.
Frey has been visiting National Parks since she was nine-years-old and she collects pins from not only National Parks but anywhere she goes.
Frey has around 1,400 pins, medals, and badges.
She says one of her favorites is the badge she received at the 300th National Park she visited because they created the badge just for her.
She’s been to 330 national parks in the U.S. and has 89 more to go see.
“I think since I’ve been to so many places and I’ve had to do a lot of interviews and presentations, it’s helped me boost my confidence and I think I’ve become a spokesperson for the junior ranger program so it made me become more social and talk to kids better,” Frey said.
She said she hopes to encourage other kids to visit National Parks.f
Frey said she plans to go to Florida around Christmas time to visit a few national parks there.
