1,500 expected at Officer Daniel Ellis Memorial 5K Run/Walk

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 5K honoring the life and legacy of Officer Daniel Ellis will be held Sunday, March 19, at the Richmond Centre Mall in Richmond.

Officer Ellis died in the line of duty on November 6, 2015.  The race will support the Daniel Ellis Memorial Foundation, that aims to inspire, educate and assist Madison Co.

The race is expected to draw some 1,500 runners and walkers and is already the biggest run/walk event in the history of Madison Co.  It is hoped that the race will raise over $75,000 for the Daniel Ellis Memorial Foundation.  The presenting sponsor for the race is Baptist Health Richmond.  Over 40 other area businesses have made in kind or monetary donations to help the cause.

There will be a short program, prayer and singing of the National Anthem at 8:15am.  The race will begin at 8:30am.  The start/finish line will be in front of Buffalo Wild Wings at the Richmond Centre Mall.

Online registration is open until Thursday, 3/17 at midnight at www.OfficerDanielEllisMemorial5k.com .  Race Packet Pickup and in person registration is available Friday, 3/18 from 11am-6pm at Surge Promotions (307 Jason Dr #4, Richmond, KY 40475).  Runners/walkers may also pickup their packets on race morning at Richmond Centre Mall.
