11th Annual ‘Roll Out The Rain Barrels’ Reception In Lexington

There are a lot of benefits to owning a rain barrel.

During a reception Friday night in downtown Lexington, ‘Bluegrass GreenSource’ showed off some rain barrels that were painted by local artists.

The barrels are more than decoration.  They keep your water on your land.

"If it runs off your property, it can pick up pet waste and litter and things like that and take it directly to the nearby stream.  By having a rain barrel, you can hold it on your property and use it to water your garden and that kind of thing.  It’s also for water conservation, so you’re not using the water from the municipal water supply or Kentucky-American Water," said Bluegrass GreenSource Executive Director Amy Sohnar.

This was the 11th annual ‘Roll Out the Rain Barrels’ event.

A rain barrel was auctioned off Friday to benefit the non-profit environmental group.

The barrels are also available to purchase for $200 each.
