Laurel Co. traffic stop ends in drug arrests

LILY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation led to the arrest of two men on drug charges.

Troopers say it all started on Tuesday at about 7:00 p.m. during a traffic stop along KY HWY 552 in Lily.

Officers say the driver, 31-year-old Don Smallwood, of London, had a suspended license, along with a Laurel Co. bench warrant for his arrest.  Troopers say an ensuing search of Smallwood’s car revealed a tin container in the back seat containing suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and cash.

Smallwood was arrested at the scene, and now faces multiple charges.

A passenger in Smallwood’s car, 41-year-old Richard Kilgore, of London, was also arrested at the scene and charged with public intoxication, along with several drug charges.

Both men were taken to the Laurel Co. Detention Center.
