Board of adjustments says no to garbage transfer facility

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) –  Neighbors who worked to stop a garbage transfer station in their Lexington neighborhood celebrated a victory Friday night. Republic Services wanted to turn a recycling center on Lisle Industrial Avenue into a transfer station. It says it would serve as a collection point for trash, that would then be taken to a landfill.

The Meadowthorpe Neighborhood Association opposed the facility because of concerns over the smell, noise, and increased traffic. The Lexington-Fayette County Board of Adjustments Friday voted to reject it.

An attorney for Republic Services told the Lexington Herald-Leader the company could appeal to the Fayette Circuit Court, but he didn’t know if that would happen.
