FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office warned the community Thursday night about a phone scam that reportedly turned dangerous. It said someone claiming to be Sgt. Mark Peters with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office called a resident and told them they had a warrant/ summons for missing court.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said on Facebook the victim was told they owed $900 bond and a $500 court fee. The victim was given the address of the sheriff’s office. Melton says the scammer also asked for the victim’s cell phone number.

As the victim was driving to the sheriff’s office, they received a call. The scammer reportedly told the victim they had to take a call, and said to instead meet them at a particular location. Melton said when the victim showed up to pay the fees, they were robbed.
