LPD investigating bank robbery

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Lexington are on the scene of a bank robbery at the Fifth Third on Bryan Station Road.

According to officers, around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, a man in a dark hoodie sweatshirt and jeans entered the bank.  Witnesses tell police the man had his face covered.

Witnesses say the man tried to take a bank bag from a customer, but that customer pulled away.  That’s when witnesses say the man jumped behind the counter and began taking cash, implying he had a weapon.

Officers say the man then ran out, got into a green SUV with a handicap plaque and drove off towards Paris.

Police say there were no injuries in the incident.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video.

Officers are also investigating a possible link between the robbery at Fifth Third, and a robbery attempt that happened earlier this morning at the People’s Exchange Bank on Richmond Road.  Police say a man tried to get in the building there, but the handle broke off, and the man ran away.
