1 debate between US Senate candidates confirmed, 1 canceled

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – One proposed debate between Kentucky candidates running for U.S. Senate has been confirmed and another canceled.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign said on Tuesday that he accepted an invitation to debate Lexington Mayor Jim Gray on Kentucky Educational Television. That debate will be televised live across the state on Oct. 31.

Meanwhile, the League of Women Voters said on Tuesday that it would not hold a debate scheduled for Oct. 30 at the University of Kentucky because Paul declined to participate in it. Gray had accepted the group’s invitation.

There had been plans to broadcast that debate, which was also being sponsored by the Lexington Herald-Leader the University of Kentucky student government, on stations around the state.
