LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A new road in Lexington already has its critics. An extension of Citation Boulevard opened yesterday. And people living near Citation’s intersection with Greendale Road say there have already been some accidents there.

One accident happened earlier tonight. Police say a Chevy Cavalier was t-boned by a tractor trailer.

Nigel Haarstead lives nearby. “We all hopped the fence and ran over there and she was unconscious when we got there. The horn was blaring. The airbags were deployed. Honestly, I  was surprised to see that she was still in the vehicle. I’m glad she was wearing a seatbelt,” says Haarstead.

Dr. Temitope Shodunke is also in the neighborhood. He says, “It’s been a tough 2 days since this road has been open. This is the second that I’ve seen. I think a light would certainly do it. I don’t know if we have to call the senator…If we have to start making phone calls. But the neighborhood here will certainly do some things to try to get that done.”

The state is reminding people that Greendale traffic stops, while Citation traffic doesn’t. The transportation cabinet says the intersection will be evaluated.  But it says right now, it doesn’t merit a traffic light.
