WWII veteran passes away at 108
PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — One of Kentucky’s last known World War II veterans has passed away.
Oakley Hacker, 108, died Monday at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, according to his obituary.
Born in 1916 in Clay County, Hacker served as an Armed Guard in the U.S. Navy during World War II, protecting merchant ships and their crews during wartime missions.
A visitation to honor his life will be held Friday, May 17, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home in Manchester.
