Wrongful death lawsuits expected to be filed Wednesday in deadly UPS plane crash

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The first wrongful death lawsuits tied to last month’s deadly UPS cargo plane crash in Louisville are expected to be filed Wednesday, according to a report from WHAS11.

Fourteen people were killed and nearly two dozen others were hurt when the MD-11 cargo jet crashed just south of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on November 4.

In a news release Tuesday, Clifford Law Offices said it is partnering with Louisville attorney Sam Aguiar to file two lawsuits on behalf of families who lost loved ones in the crash. The firms say the suits will allege negligence against UPS and UPS Air.

Attorneys also expect the lawsuits to name additional companies connected to the aircraft, including GE, the engine manufacturer; Boeing, which originally built the MD-11; and VT San Antonio Aerospace, the company responsible for certain inspections and maintenance before the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB released a preliminary report on November 20 that pointed to fatigue cracks found in critical components of the plane’s left wing.

All MD-11 cargo aircraft remain grounded as the decades-old fleet undergoes inspections and potential repairs.
