Work Zone Safety Awareness Week starts April 8

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -April marks the unofficial start of the construction season for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

KYTC asks drivers for their assistance to make roadways safer.  They say that as the number of orange barrels and crews on the road increase, so does the likelihood of a work zone incident.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 8-12 and we invite you to participate in “Glow Orange Kentucky.”

“Glow Orange Kentucky” is an annual initiative of KYTC to show visible community support for raising work zone awareness.  The goal is to encourage motorists to drive without distractions and to slow down in work zones.

KYTC requests assistance with this campaign by asking organizations and citizens throughout the Commonwealth to pledge to illuminate the following with the color orange the week of April 8-12.

They ask participants to take a photo and post it on their social media account using #glowky. You can tag the KYTC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/kytc120/ or mention us on Twitter using @KYTC.

To participate – citizens, businesses and agencies should complete the online pledge form by Friday, April 5: https://kytc.typeform.com/to/u8b9UE
