Woodford Schools to start all-virtual Aug. 26

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The increase in coronavirus cases across the region has prompted Wood Ford Schools to decide to start school Aug. 26 with all-virtual instruction rather than the mixed choice system that originally was adopted.

The Board of Education made the decision Thursday night to give parents and teachers time to prepare.

The school board will meet again Sept. 8 to review conditions and meet with the Woodford County Health Department in hopes of being able to start in-person classes on Sept. 14 for those students who have “opted for traditional in-person classes,” the district said.

A growing number of districts have changed plans in recent days because of the surge across the state that began in July and has continued in many counties. Bath, Clark and Corbin are just a few of those that have changed schedules.

Meanwhile, some retired teachers are making sure students will be ready whenever they do return to the classroom in person.

Huntertown Elementary staff got together to make lanyards for students to hold onto their masks when eating and at other times so the masks aren’t dropped or lost.
