Woodford County voters reject tax for new high school

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – In a special election Tuesday, voters in Woodford County rejected a tax increase to pay for a new high school.

Election officials say the final vote was 3,758 against the tax and 3,442 for it, a difference of 316 votes.

Supporters argued the high school building is 54-years old, is outdated and doesn’t provide the space and opportunities students in the county deserve.

Opponents said they simply weren’t willing to pay more taxes in order to build a new high school, citing a recent tax hike from the government.
