Woodford committee works on dress code proposals
VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ)- Parents, students, staff and administrators in Woodford County hope they’re inching closer to a resolution after the school’s dress code found itself in the national spotlight this year.
People hope a Thursday night meeting is the last step before a decision on what students will be wearing. A committee mulls over details of dress codes, both old and potential which have drawn the attention of national media outlets.
For one, adjusting the old dress code allows v-neck shirts but still no collar bone. Students aim to free the knee; inching skirts and shorts up to fingertip measuring points.
An on-site council, meaning one formed within Woodford County high will look at three proposals pushed forward by the committee. They’re all deviating from the original code standing watch for the past decade, but none able to prevent the inevitable–yet.
“It was barely above, below the collar line.”
Tammy Hysell’s daughter wore a shirt to school Thursday which was not in compliance according to current police. You can find the photograph at the top of the article.
“And for a first offense, she got a detention,” said Hysell.
That’s something the committee brought up and will move on to the council. They want students to be warned at their first offense. It’s an offense some think could be avoided by one of the proposals, uniforms.
“As far as the uniforms go, kids are developing their individuality at this point,” said an opponent of uniforms. A reluctant supporter chimed in, “Let’s go to a uniform and have it say Woodford County and forget all this discussion.”
