Women Chained To Dog House Protests In Frankfort

A woman chained to a dog house rallied in Frankfort against Kentucky’s animal chain laws.

Amira Thayne said the state needed to better protect animals by banning animal chains.

The stop in Frankfort was part of her ‘Dogs Deserve Better’ campaign.

Thayne said that it should be illegal in all 50 states to chain up a dog.

"Dogs want nothing more than to be with us, their pack, and leaving them in solitary confinement is inhumane and neglectful. How long will Americans allow this cruelty to continue?" said Thayne.

Kentucky was one of seven states she was stopping in.

Thayne planned to stay chained to the dog house for a total of 49 hours during the campaign.

"By chaining ourselves to dog houses, we’re trying to show people that if it’s not okay for humans, it’s not okay for our best friends either. So, that is why we are taking it to such an extreme," said Thayne.

Thayne said that dogs should never be chained up.

She said assistance was available if pet owners were unable to afford a fence to keep their dog safe.

Thayne added that a dog that lives 11 years and is habitually chained will, on average, spend over 95,000 hours chained to a doghouse.

She said her next stop would be Virginia.
