Woman seriously injured in early-morning fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An alert neighbor is credited with getting firefighters to the scene of an early-morning house fire in Lexington.

The Lexington Fire Department says the neighbor spotted smoke coming from the home at 3448 Bellmeade Road at 1:15 a.m. Monday and called 911.

Firefighters arrived and found a woman in the back of the home.

They say she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Dozens of firefighters responded to the fire and say it took about 40 minutes to knock it down.

“It was a difficult fire,” says Major Trevor Cox “It had run through a lot of different places throughout the home, so they had a tough fight. Crews worked really hard and did a really good job in getting that fire out.”

Investigators are trying to determine where the fire started and what started it.

Firefighters say they did not hear smoke detectors going off in the house and are not sure if they were working.
