Woman saves possible suicide jumper on bridge in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Louisville woman is being called an “angel” and a hero after stopping a man from jumping off the Second Street Bridge Monday evening.

According to police, the incident happened around 5 p.m. when the woman spotted the man in crisis and intervened. Body camera footage from officers shows the woman struggling with the man, pleading for assistance as she tried to stop him from jumping.

In the footage, the woman can be heard calling out for help: “It’s okay, it’s okay… no, I can’t, hey, hey, hey, hey, no, no, please help me, please help me. Oh, please help me, please help me,” she cried as officers arrived.

With the help of an officer, the woman successfully saved the man, who was then handcuffed for his safety and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say the woman had been out for a run when she noticed the man in distress and decided to act. Her bravery and quick thinking have earned widespread praise from the community.

The man’s current condition has not been disclosed.
