UPDATE: Laurel County man arrested after shooting leaves mother, two others injured

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been arrested following a Wednesday morning shooting that left his mother and two other people injured at a home on Guy Greene Road, about three miles south of London.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were sent to the location after reports that a male suspect had shot his mother and left the scene on foot before returning a short time later.

When deputies arrived, they found the suspect — identified as 39-year-old Beve Dewayne Begley of London — standing on the porch near the pistol allegedly used in the shooting. According to the sheriff’s office, Begley was taken into custody.

Investigators say Begley’s mother was found inside the home with a gunshot wound to the arm. She was taken to St. Joseph Hospital London and later transferred to UK Medical Center, where officials say she was unresponsive.

Two other men — one a family member and one a friend — suffered severe head injuries after allegedly being struck with the pistol, according to the sheriff’s Facebook posti. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies say a 4-year-old child was asleep in a back bedroom during the incident as multiple shots were fired. Social Services was called to assist.

Begley is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment involving the discharge of a firearm. He’s being held in the Laurel County Detention Center

The pistol used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials say they are still trying to determine a motive.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says a woman was injured in a shooting Wednesday morning at a residence off Guy Greene Road, about three miles southwest of London.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were sent to the scene just before 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. The woman had apparently been shot at least once in the arm and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London for treatment.

Investigators say a male subject, believed to be the shooter, is being interviewed. The sheriff’s office says it is investigating what led up to the shooting.

Officials say additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
