Woman facing charges in stolen puppy case

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Shih Tzu puppy stolen from Petland Lexington is now safe and back at the store, thanks to quick action from Lexington Police and help from the community.

Surveillance footage from Saturday, August 2, showed a woman placing the puppy in her purse and walking out of the store. The suspect was seen leaving in a red SUV.

Police say they located both the suspect and the stolen puppy on Tuesday, August 5, in the 1900 block of Plaudit Place. Officers arrested 48-year-old Melanie McClure and charged her with receiving stolen property valued between $1,000 and $10,000.

According to Petland, the puppy was rescued unharmed and is in good health. Store officials say they’re grateful for the public’s support and the swift response from law enforcement.
