Woman dies in central Ky. blaze

HODGENVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Police say a fire that killed a central Kentucky woman may have been caused by a cracked lighter.

Hodgenville Police Chief Steve Johnson says the woman’s daughter told officers that her mother was having trouble lighting a cigarette and hit the lighter against a table several times. The woman says she heard a noise after that and turned around to see her 76-year-old mother engulfed in flames.

Johnson told media that it appears the fire on Saturday was caused by an accidental explosion, possibly due to a cracked lighter, but officials are still investigating.
