Woman charged with exploiting adult

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a Lexington woman is under arrest for helping steal thousands from a vulnerable adult.

Investigators say the victim is a 64-year-old woman who lives alone and suffers from multiple disabilities.

Police say it affects her memory and she cannot make sound financial decisions.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Ashley Shackleford collected checks and payments from the victim, totaling more than $4,000.

Those checks were made out to another person, Glenn Stamper, who police say charged the victim $20,000 for work on her home that he never did and supplies for the repairs.

According to court documents, Shackleford was collecting the checks for Stamper while he was in jail on an unrelated charge.

She also collected checks made out to her from the victim, totaling more than $1,000.
