Woman charged with DUI in deadly Laurel County crash; one killed, two injured

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A woman is behind bars and one person is dead following a three-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Laurel County.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash just after midnight on American Greeting Card Road. Investigators say 45-year-old Kimberly Hedrick was driving an SUV when she crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 67-year-old Benita Vickers head-on.

The impact caused Hedrick’s SUV to collide with a second SUV driven by David Wynn. Deputies say the crash caused Hedrick’s vehicle to go airborne and strike a guardrail.

Vickers was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Two passengers in Wynn’s vehicle were also taken to the hospital with injuries.

Wynn left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Deputies say he is wanted on multiple outstanding warrants. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Hedrick was also taken to the hospital but treated for only minor injuries. Investigators say she smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and later admitted to drinking before driving.

She’s being held in the Laurel County Correctional Center and faces multiple charges, including DUI and vehicular-related offenses.
