Woman Arrested After Pursuit, Child Found In Car

A woman was arrested over the weekend after Barbourville police said she led officers on a high-speed pursuit with a small child in the car.
Police said it started when officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Wal Mart at 5:14 p.m. on Saturday.
They said the suspect, Ivory Melas, 28, was spotted in her car leaving the parking lot.
Police said they followed Melas as she went down 25E then around several side streets and back onto 25E where she almost hit an 18-wheeler.
They said she then did two U-turns through the median before leaving 25E and getting onto Kentucky 11N.
The pursuit continued for several miles until officers said Melas went down a dead end, tried to turn around and struck a Knox County Sheriff’s deputy head-on.
They said the pursuit then ended and that’s when they discovered a small child in the car behind the driver’s seat.
Melas was arrested and faces numerous charges including wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and driving under the influence.
The child was placed in the care of Social Services.
