WKy. tornado survivor recalls moving back home after her house was rebuilt
(WTVQ) — It’s been a journey for Lilly Riherd to move back into her home in Bowling Green, “the biggest hurdle that we had overcome was actually getting the insurance company to say, ok, we’re gonna knock the house down.”
In December of last year we brought you Riherd’s story as she waited for her home to be rebuilt after devastating tornadoes swept through Western Kentucky.
Since then, she says the waiting game was the hardest part.
“April the 10th is exactly the date that I moved back in. I’ve finally gotten numb to it and I just didn’t put any high expectations of anything, and so, you know, I just went with whatever,” says Riherd.
Adding that this past weekend, “now, this past Saturday when, when the, the we had the tornado scare again, I was not probably, yeah, I went down underneath, I have got a big crawlspace, I don’t have a cellar like I had before, but I can still access it. So I went down there just because, and that was kind of nerve wracking for just a little bit, but it, it ended up being ok.”
And although it took some time for her to move back into her cozy home, “almost, sometimes I don’t even wanna go anywhere. I like. I kinda like being right where I am but I do, you know, I do things but, yeah, it’s, it’s been good. I don’t, I really hadn’t had any, you know, there’s not been any negative as far as with the rebuild and all that, you know, of course, we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get certain things done,” added Riherd.
Riherd says she is pleased with her home, and it is everything she could possibly want.
