Winchester Road reopens following fluid spill from accident

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The busy Lexington intersection of Winchester Road and Patchen Wilkes Drive was closed for two-hours Wednesday night due to a fluid spill following a collision, according to Lexington Police.

Investigators say around 7:20 p.m., an inbound car was stopped at a red light on Patchen Wilkes Drive at Winchester Road. Police say the driver of a freight truck didn’t stop in time and rear-ended the car, pushing both vehicles into the intersection, which resulted in the fluid spill.

Lexington Police say an on-duty officer, who was waiting to turn off of Patchen Wilkes Drive, witnessed the accident.

Both drivers involved in the collision were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The Lexington Fire Department and an environmental cleanup team worked to clean up the spill.

Inbound Winchester Road was closed to traffic until 9:30 p.m. Motorists were detoured onto Sir Barton Way during the temporary closure, according to police.
