Winchester police ask for help in decades-old missing person cold case

WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Winchester Police Department is asking the public for help in solving a nearly 20-year-old missing person case.

According to investigators, Thomas “Tom” Edward Profitt was last seen on May 3, 2006, in Winchester. Police say Profitt told his daughter he was on his way to visit her in Lexington — but he never arrived.

Officers say Profitt was driving a maroon 1997 Buick Century at the time of his disappearance. The vehicle had a Kentucky license plate reading 165 ADW and a front vanity plate that said “Tom & Anna.”

Police describe Profitt as being about six feet tall with gray, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. He wore glasses and had noticeable scars on his chest. Investigators also say he was missing part of his right index finger.

Winchester police are urging anyone who may have information — no matter how small it may seem — to come forward to help bring answers to Profitt’s family.

Tips can be directed to the Winchester Police Department.
