Winchester man tries burning home with three children inside

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Winchester man is charged with arson after police say he tried to burn down a home with three children inside.

Police say it happened Friday night at a home in the 400 block of West Washington Street.

According to police, witnesses say Jerome Horton, 39, allegedly threatened to blow the house up earlier in the day, and was seen standing outside a bedroom window Friday night.

Police say Horton was arrested after they found him as a passenger in a car that was fleeing the scene. Officers say he had one shoe on that matched another shoe found at the scene.

Officers say when they found Horton, he smelled like gasoline.

Police say a window of the home had been broken out, and the blinds were set on fire.

They say the children in the home were eight, six and four years old.

According to police, no injuries were reported.
