Williamsburg ‘police-style’ uniform stolen from vendor
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ)- Williamsburg Police are searching for a ‘police-style’ uniform, stolen from a vendor recently.
They say it was a navy blue uniform bearing Williamsburg Police Department’s shoulder patch. Officers say the uniform was stolen in Owensboro and the patch was a prop being used by a vendor that specializes in selling emergency equipment. It was part of a display at the Kentucky Sheriff’s Assocaition’s annual conference.
That wasn’t the only thing taken from the conference, according to the department.
It says blue strobe lights that would be installed on a vehicle were also taken along with a bulletproof vest and gun holsters. All of this equipment belonged to the same vendor and not the department. Officers say items were also taken from other vendors.
As for the stolen uniform, it’s not an exact replica of the Williamsburg Police Department. Officers there say they do wear navy uniforms, but they are distinguished by gray lapels, which the stolen uniform didn’t have. Also, the metal badge on the uniform was not a Williamsburg badge. Instead, it has the name of another law enforcement agency.
Officers don’t know why the equipment was stolen but say Owensboro Police are handling the investigation.
